Ellwangen is a city in eastern Baden-Württemberg near the border with Bavaria. After the city Aalen and Schwäbisch Gmünd is the third largest city in the district Ostalbkreis. Ellwangen lies on the upstream Jagst. The Alamannenmuseum Ellwangen is one of the most important history museums of the westgerman Alamanni tribe.
SightsEllwangen Palace Museum contains magnificent rooms of valuable Schrezheim faience (pottery), baroque nativity scenes, clock and rooms for dolls. Great art-historical significance has the church of St. Vitus (ordained on the October the 3rd, 1233), which dominates the city. It is a three-aisled cross basilica from 12th century and is considered the most important Romanesque basilica with vaults in Swabia. Numerous lakes around Ellwangen guarantee water recreation and entertainment.
