It is the area of the second-largest city in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Waren is located at the Müritz, the largest lake entirely located in Germany with an area of 117 km², at the Kölpinsee, Tiefwarensee, Feisnecksee, Melzersee and at Waupacksee. In the middle of the city there lies the Herrensee. Camping is located at the Ecktannen Müritz, the largest German inland waters.
