Great district town Plauen is a regional center in southwest of Saxony, in the district Vogtlandkreis. Plauen is situated in the valley of the river Weissen Elster. Plauen is situated in the region Mittelvogtländisches Kuppenland. Therefore the region is characterized mostly by forested hills.
SightsTheater Plauen-Zwickau offers musical theater, drama, orchestra, ballet and puppet. Vogtland museum has collections about the history of Vogtland and the city of Plauen. Lace Museum in Old Town Hall from 1884 presents the history of lace in the city. Plauen has several memorials to commemorate the Jewish community and the victims of fascism. In the city is a big shopping center.
