Lauenstein is located in the upper part of the town Müglitztal Altenberg in the district Saxon Switzerland - Eastern Ore Mountains in the region of Saxony. Lauenstein is located about 40 km south of Dresden in Eastern Ore Mountains.
LauensteinThe site extends from the railway station at 470 meters altitude on the slopes of the left Müglitz to 710 m high on ascending the river, where the center is located on an approximately 50 m above the terrace located Müglitztal.

Gehlberg is located in county Ilm-Kreis in the region Thuringia. Gehlberg lies on the northern slopes of the Thuringian Forest on a plateau between the valleys Wilder Gera and Zahmer Gera. The site extends from about 680 to 750 meters altitude. The village is only about 600 meters from the district Grund and only about one kilometer west of the 978 meter high Schneekopf, the second highest mountain in Thuringia.
