The island with altitude 1 meter above sea level is available across the sea from the railway embankment only during the low tide. Tourism, in addition to agriculture and employment in coastal protection, is an important source of income for residents. To the west of the island is an old lighthouse built in 1902 with a height of 11.50 m.

Bad Dürkheim is a spa and county town in the metropolitan region Rhine-Neckar on the edge of the Pfälzerwaldes (Palatinate Forest). It is the seat of the district Bad Dürkheim. Bad Dürkheim is located on the eastern edge of the Palatinate Forest on the German Wine Road, about 30 km east of Kaiserslautern, and about 20 km west of Ludwigshafen and Mannheim. Approximately 15 km south of Neustadt an der Weinstrasse. Through Bad Dürkheim run the federal highways 37 and 271. From west to east the Isenach river flows through the city.
