The Erfurt Cathedral is the most important and oldest church in Erfurt. During the Second World War was the cathedral spared of direct bomb hits. However, roof and windows of the choir were partially damaged by explosions in the vicinity. In 1965 was the beginning of renewed by extensive restoration work. It is one of the most famous German castles: the Eisenach Wartburg. There was written German history.

The City Hall building is a symbol of municipal policy and administrative center. The City Hall is located in one of the most remarkable places in the city, the Neo-Gothic building Fischmarkt. It is not only the seat of the administration and the center of political power in Erfurt, it is also a tourist attraction and venue for concerts, receptions and parties. The university of Erfurt was founded in 1389 and closed in 1816. In 1994 university was re-established.
