Gehlberg is located in county Ilm-Kreis in the region Thuringia. Gehlberg lies on the northern slopes of the Thuringian Forest on a plateau between the valleys Wilder Gera and Zahmer Gera. The site extends from about 680 to 750 meters altitude. The village is only about 600 meters from the district Grund and only about one kilometer west of the 978 meter high Schneekopf, the second highest mountain in Thuringia.

Wiehl is a town in the district Oberbergischer Kreis in the administrative region of Cologne in North Rhine-Westphalia.
