Giessen is located in the heart of the Land of Hesse, between the foothills of the Vogelsberg, the Taunus and Westerwald, in the picturesque valley of the river Lahn. In the city are the University of the Justus-Liebig-University Giessen and Secondary School. Here has its administrative headquarters district Giessen. Municipal Theatre was built in 1906-1907 and its architecture is heavily influenced by Art Nouveau style.
