Velbert is a large district town belonging to a county Mettmann, which is approximately 20 kilometers northeast of the North Rhine-Westphalia´s capital Düsseldorf, 18 km south of Essen and 12 kilometers northwest of Wuppertal on the left side of the Ruhr river in Germany. It has around 85,000 inhabitants. Velbert is located on the hills of the Bergisch land and is also called "the heart of the green countryside". It lies about 230 meters above sea level. Velbert neighboring cities are the cities of Essen and Wuppertal, Hattingen, Heiligenhaus and Wülfrath.
